This combination of Green Grotto Caves and Dunn’s River Falls is a must-do that you don’t want to miss. It is the perfect opportunity to do two of leading attractions in Jamaica in a single day. Then help yourself to some souvenir shopping and lunch at one of our favorite local restaurants.
GREEN GROTTO CAVES: Green Grotto is 1,525 metres long and 12 metres deep. It is characterised by numerous chambers, light holes and a subterranean lake – the Grotto Lake – occupies its bowels. Situated on 25.9 hectares of the island’s beautiful North Coast. The Green Grotto Cave is surrounded by thick vegetation and supplied with pristine waters flowing from its secret depths. The central feature of this natural attraction is the large labyrinthine limestone cave with its unique rock formations, its stalactites, stalagmites and abundance of overhead ceiling pockets, bats and a wishing well that no one really knows it’s depth. On arrival at the location gear-up for a one-hour journey into this underworld charm with your resident guide, it will surely leave you speechless! All the features of the cave are still in their pristine state. The Green Grotto Cave provided scenes for several movies such as “Live and Let Die” and many others. It is a must-do marvelous wonder that will make your vacation complete.
ROSE HALL GREAT HOUSE (Pass by without stopping): This Rose Hall Great House is an early 18th century plantation home that sits on a high elevation on thousands of acres in Rose Hall, Montego Bay. The Rose Hall Great House was once owned by the famous and certainly one of the wickedest plantation owners to walk the land of Jamaica, Annie Palmer. She owned hundreds of slaves. Annie Palmer managed to kill three of her four husbands – she was strangled by the fourth. This house became haunted after her gruesome death in 1831. The house is scary to look at even in the daytime. On this tour there is no stop at the Rose Hall Haunted Mansion however, your tour guide will tell you the history and slow down so that you can take photos. Only travelers from Grand Palladium and most Montego Bay hotel will see this house.
GREENWOOD GREAT HOUSE (Pass by without stopping): The Greenwood Great House (Plantation home) was constructed in the early 18th Century. Like most, if not all the other Great Houses in Jamaica, the Greenwood Great House was built at high elevation. One could say that this was a strategy used back in the plantation era as a means of overlooking the plantation and also for security purposes. This house, unlike the Rose Hall Great House, is not haunted but of a more peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. The history and the architecture of the house is what will blow you away. As you pass by, feel free to take photos when your tour guide slows down. Only travelers from Grand Palladium and Montego Bay hotel will see this house.
OCHO RIOS SHOPPING: Shopping in Ocho Rios on this day trip will be at the Ocho Rios Craft Market or Similar. A wide variety of items are available in this one area. Items includes rums, coffee, T-shirts, hats, jewelry, wood carving products, arts, etc. Try to take small bills with you when you go on tours because not every place will accept credit cards plus the vendors might not have change in USD and you will end up having to accept a lot of Jamaican dollars as change. Credit cards are not widely accepted in the Craft Market area so be sure to take enough cash with you.
LUNCH (extra cost): Lunch stop will be at one of our favorite jerk centers.
